NIBM is proud to announce the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of National Institute of Business Management.

With more than 3,000 students enrolled in full-time, part-time, undergraduate, diploma and certificate programs, NIBM is noted for its innovative training programs and commitment to Management and IT Education excellence. During this Anniversary year, NIBM will celebrate its past achievements and highlight its current strengths to reach even greater heights of service to both private and public sector in Management Education, Training and Consultancy, in Sri Lanka.

NIBM is affiliated to the University College Dublin of National University of Ireland and Northumbria University in United Kingdom and has already produced about 700 graduates who had reached international standards of achievement.

The Anniversary plan include various social activities that embrace the range of stakeholders in our community, from students at all levels to our dedicated academic staff and management team who represent the best in academic and professional accomplishment and potential. These social activities include an almsgiving to 40 Bhikkus to commemorate 40 years.

The 40th Anniversary year will start from mid-July of 2008. In conjunction with anniversary celebrations, two major events are also organized.

• Official opening ceremony of the newly constructed building extension to the NIBM Colombo Campus will take place in an auspicious moment on 15th July 2008.
• Official opening ceremony of the newly constructed building for the NIBM Kurunegala Training Centre will take place in an auspicious moment on 22nd July 2008.

Students of NIBM are also encouraged to undertake activities that contribute to the celebratory effort, including designing a Anniversary Logo.

Faculty, staff, students, alumni, advisors, supporters and friends of NIBM are all invited to participate and celebrate.

Milestones 1968 - 2008

• 1968 National Institute of Management, established in 1968 under the purview of the Ministry of Industries and Scientific Affairs in collaboration with the UNDP, with the ILO functioning as the executing agency
• 1976 The Institute was incorporated as the National Institute of Business Management
• 1979 Introduced Diploma in Computer System Design program.
• 1989 Introduced Higher Diploma in Computer Based Information Systems programme.
• 1996 Rolled out B.Sc. in Management Information Systems degree course, together with NUI, Ireland.
• 2004 The NIBM was brought under the purview of the Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational and Technical Education.
• 2007 Obtained ISO 9001:2000 certification for its training excellence
• 2007 Launched B.Sc. and B.A degree programmes in Finance, Marketing and Business Administration in affiliation with UCD, Dublin and Northumbria University, UK.
